Day Care Notes
Dear Families,
We are looking forward to the next week! Our theme for these weeks will be underwater, which sounds like fun! We will also be learning about the letter I, the number 9 and the diamond shape.
Please note that we will be closed on Monday, May 31, to observe Memorial Day.
We are still in need of old ties for a special craft.
There will be another dinner chat in June. More information will be coming soon.
I will be adding a spot on the sign in/out sheet for parents to check whether your child has had sunscreen applied prior to coming to the daycare. This will help us to know who needs sunscreen and who doesn't.
Please remember to label ALL of your child's belongings. Thank you.
Mrs. Athena

Cash for Trash
The school is collecting old ink-jet cartridges and old cell phones. We receive $2.25 per cartridge or phone. Items may be dropped off at the office.

Baconized Cornbread
(A Majorie Standish recipe)
Cornmeal was at first used from necessity, but through the years we have continued its use because we like it. A favorite is johnnycake, a bread that is thin and crispy due to the few ingredients used in its making. We are more familiar with cornbread which has a tender, moist crumb due to the addition of egg, shortening, and flour. If you happen to make cornbread, try sprinkling raw, finely cut bacon over the top. As the bacon cooks, the fat dribbles all down through the cornbread.
1 cup cornmeal
1 cup flour, sifted
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons shortening, melted
3 or 4 slices finely cut raw bacon
Preheat oven to 425° F. Sift dry ingredients. Beat egg; add milk. Combine with dry ingredients. Add shortening. Pour into greased 8-by-8-inch pan. Sprinkle raw bacon over batter. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.

Jr. High/Sr. High Awards Banquet
The Jr. High/Sr. High School Award's Banquet will be held on Friday, June 4. The banquet has a Mexican menu. All parents, staff, and grades 8-12 students are welcome to attend. The cost is $10 per person. The dress code is formal/semi-formal. Payment is due today. Checks may be made payable to LWCS. Thank you.

Re-Enrollment
In making decisions for schooling next year, prayerfully consider re-enrolling  your child at LWCS. It is very important that we know who is coming back next year as soon as possible, as decisions are being made for next year's programming. The deadline for early enrollment is next Tuesday, June 1. It is with great pleasure that we are able to teach your children. Applications are available in the office.
